The Recycling Company RGS Nordic Got a New Excellent Customer Portal Built by Sprinting Software

Sprinting Software has developed RGS Nordic’s new self-service customer portal. The portal greatly surpasses expectations of both RGS Nordic and its customers. The accessibility and user-friendliness of the solution has increased efficiency and overall competitiveness.

RGS Nordic competes on recycling, pricing, and ease of being a customer at RGS Nordic. The previous customer portal at RGS Nordic provided basic self-service access to its customers. The newly Sprinting Software developed portal adds critical new features.

Data, BI and Performance Manager Michael Rygaard at RGS Nordic explains: “Our previous portal had about half the functionality needed by our customers and was cumbersome to operate. It appeared outdated and was costly to develop further”.

A self-service customer portal is key to ensure good customer service experience and efficient company operation. To provide additional value for its customers, RGS Nordic decided to search for a new platform. After having evaluated a handful of potential vendors, Sprinting Software was chosen.

Michael Rygaard says: “The reason for choosing Sprinting was due to the fact that they understood our needs well, had previous experience with building portals, and could base the development on their existing development framework, Sprinting Platform”.

Sprinting Platform has strong CI/CD capabilities and existing functional components. This significantly shortens project delivery time and enhances quality in development projects.

The platform is a great fit in relation to RGS Nordic’s vision of constructing a modern customer portal with expanded functionality. This relates to e.g. customer users’ self-invite of other users, display of invoices and weighing data as well as easy sorting and export of data.

Michael Rygaard says: “It was important for us that other companies were successfully using Sprinting’s platform, and it is was valuable that the platform already included functionality and infrastructure we needed. This was areas such as Active Directory, user management, and AWS connections. Azure AD was for example up and running in just one day.

We chose a model where our existing systems provide data, and the portal displays it. This approach offers great flexibility. For instance, I can define tables and fields in our data warehouse, which are then directly displayed in the portal. This was key to a successful project as it significantly reduces project costs”.

Michael Rygaard continues: “As with any project, there were challenges along the way. However, in this case, I do not consider them costly lessons, but rather valuable ones.

Sprinting’s flexibility in collaboration and focus on a direct and lean working relationship meant that I could work closely with the development team. This allowed us to develop far more for the portal than we could have dreamed of or received budget approval for. This has been the most
important factor for us.

The Sprinting UX specialist assigned to the project was a skilled and valued partner for us. He introduced new and valuable features. For example, inline buttons that activate when hovering over a row were implemented. This has become one of the most appreciated features as it reduces the number of clicks required significantly.

In our customer portal it is possible to click directly on an item and view line items without pop-ups or downloading files. Compared to the former portal, this significantly speeds up several processes and reduces the process-time to one-fifth of what it used to be”.

The portal has become a huge success both internally and externally.

Michal Rygaard explains: “Our customers use the portal extensively. We provide access to our customers’ customers so they too can get direct access to data. They can see where their loads are delivered with photos and weighing data, and by this, we help our customers offering transparency to their customers.

We are seeing a strong increase in customer demand for waste data. Authorities and constructions companies are putting more and more emphasis on the tracking of waste, and our customers are now able to access this important data. Our plan is to provide even more data in the portal, such as improved recycling reporting and C02 emission reporting.

We use the solution extensively internally. For instance, I no longer look up invoices in our other internal systems, but in the customer portal. It is faster and better in every way in terms of speed, searchability, or the ability to extract data.

Take reviewing of invoices; in our other internal systems, the process of reviewing requires countless clicks and comparisons. What otherwise can take two hours literally only takes 30 seconds in the portal.

Our customer service staff can now see the same data as our customers do. This allows them to effectively guide and assist customers while looking at the “same” screen. As a result, they become more self-serving, and we can focus on solving more complex issues for them.
